Scaffolding course over 9 metres – theory

Norwegian authorities introduced new regulations on work at height with effect from 1 January 2016. The most significant change concerned new training requirements for scaffolders. It was Chapter 17 of the “Regulations on the Performance of Work” that was revised. Training for scaffolders is now divided according to the height of the scaffold. Scaffolders who are to erect scaffolding over two metres must receive training in the assembly, dismantling, modification and inspection of scaffolding. The training must also enable the worker to assess the condition of scaffold materials and the need for maintenance.

Pursuant to the “Regulations on the Performance of Work” No. 1357, Section 17-4, the employer shall ensure that employees who are to work with the assembly, dismantling, modification and inspection of scaffolds with the upper scaffold deck from nine metres receive training. This also applies to scaffolds that are not erected in a standard configuration in accordance with the supplier’s assembly instructions, regardless of the height of the upper deck.

PURPOSE
Provide theoretical training for personnel who are to assemble, dismantle, modify and inspect scaffolds with an upper scaffold deck above nine metres in a standard configuration.

A full scaffolder course over 9 metres comprises 108 hours, divided into 36 hours of theory and 72 hours of practical training.

To meet the regulatory training requirements for those who build scaffolds over 9 metres, you must, in addition to the theory course, document practical experience:

Documentation of practical experience
72 hours of practical training documented within the participant’s own company by a competent person, using a dedicated practice form.

Target group
All individuals and companies that build or modify scaffolds, and all those responsible for the erection, dismantling, extension, inspection and modification of scaffolds with a height exceeding 9 metres.

Prerequisites
Basic fall protection course.

The course is offered as in-house company training in Norwegian or other languages upon request.
